A Thanksgiving Prayer and a Reminder

Praying:

Generous Lord,

We are humbled as we think on all the gifts and blessings you have poured into our lives. Thank you for your love demonstrated in the gift of your Son and the restoration of relationship that we have through the Incarnation.

Keep us mindful of those around us, particularly those who do not have what we often take for granted. As you have been generous to us, may we also be generous to others: in thought, word and deed.

Amen.

Remembering:

Thus says the Lord: Act with justice and righteousness, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor anyone who has been robbed. And do no wrong or violence to the alien, the orphan, and the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place. (Jeremiah 22:3)

Eliminating Violence Against Women

“Some 70 percent of women experience in their lifetime some form of physical or sexual violence from men – the majority from husbands, intimate partners or someone they know.”– Ban Ki-moon.

Check out the blog I co-wrote with Rose Berger over at God's Politics: "Uniting to Eliminate Violence against Women."

Thanksgiving Immigration Update

On Immigration (courtesy of Immigration Impact):

  • Lou Dobbs, fresh off the heels of his CNN departure and perhaps looking to prime an important constituency, tries to soften his anti-immigrant tone to curry favor with the Hispanic population, and is confronted by Telemundo's María Celeste.

Honestly, I find it a little hard to believe that he's "Latinos' greatest friend," when only a few years ago he falsely accused undocumented immigrants of bringing leprosy to the U.S.

  • Republican Senators try to frame the immigration debate their own way ... by making stuff up--sorry, is that too harsh?
